In Some Areas Plastic Shopping Bags Will Be Banned From Shopping Malls

Non-biodegradable plastic shopping bags will be banned from shopping malls, supermarkets, pharmacies, bookstores and other places, catering take-out services and all kinds of exhibitions in the built-up areas of municipalities directly under the Central Government, provincial capitals and cities separately listed in the plan from January 1, 2021.

Meanwhile, the production and sale of disposable plastic cotton swabs and foamed plastic tableware are banned nationwide.

Non-biodegradable disposable plastic knives, forks and spoons are prohibited in the in-room catering services in urban built-up areas and scenic spots above the prefecture level.

In addition, the use of disposable plastic straws that are not biodegradable has been banned in the catering industry nationwide since January 1, 2021, but straws brought with milk, drinks and other food packaging are not banned for the time being.
